Two people, one set of drawings, no pretension.

Kererū Studios began in 2018, when Drew Parkinson followed his grandfather into the trade and set up his own design practice, then trading as Winthrop Ltd. As the work grew, Josh Pirika-Coburn joined as co-director.

The two run distinct halves of the process. Drew works with clients to shape the concept design and coordinates the consultants around it; Josh turns that design into the drawings and specifications a builder can price and a council will consent.

The name changed when the ethos sharpened. Too much of the housing within reach of most New Zealanders is built without much thought behind it, so the practice became Kererū Studios, with one aim: high quality, considered architectural design that responds sympathetically to the environment it sits within.
